Brumby’s is proud to have been amongst the first Australian companies to successfully embark on a franchising programme not only when franchising was in its infancy, but when the specialty or hot bread shop market was just beginning.

Like most successful businesses, Brumby’s had a modest beginning. The first store, known then as “Old Style Bread Centre,” was opened in the Victorian suburb of Ashburton in 1975. In the late 1970s, a further seven company-owned “Old Style Bread Centres” were opened in and around Melbourne. In the 1980s, the “Old Style Bread Centre” was introduced and expanded in Queensland. In the ’80s, after extensive market research, it was believed that the brand would be stronger with a “truly Australian” identity – so the Brumby’s brand was born.

Throughout the 1980s, when franchising was still in its early stages, Brumby’s paved the way to become one of the forerunners and by the early 1990s, Brumby’s had become a true franchise success story. The strength of the Brumby’s system was evident when it entered the New Zealand market in 1995. In 2007, the Brumby’s system was acquired by ASX listed Retail Food Group Limited. Brumby’s today is truly a retail success story in the specialty bread category in Australia and New Zealand.

Brumby’s GO! represents an evolution of the Brumby’s Bakeries franchise system and was developed in order to meet consumer demand for single serve, ready to eat, freshly prepared snacks on the run. The Brumby’s GO! concept offers baked ready-to-go products made daily onsite, utilising Brumby’s GO! tried and tested recipes. It is an eat now, single serve business with a focus on product, retail and operational excellence.
